Controversy: Paris City Hall to Suspend Funding to Private School Stanislas

The City of Paris announced on Wednesday evening that it would temporarily suspend its funding for the private institution Stanislas (6th), accused of “drifting” in an official report, pending “clarifications” from the State.

“After being informed through the press of the content of an administrative investigation report by the General Inspection of Education,” it “decided to suspend the funding of the institution” (…) “as a precaution, pending the required clarifications from the State,” the city of Paris announced in a statement.

The City of Paris contributed a funding of 1,373,905 euros for the 2022-2023 school year for the nursery, primary, and middle school of the Stanislas institution, corresponding to the 483 students in nursery and primary school, and the 1,329 students in middle school, in accordance with the rules on funding private institutions under contract by local authorities.

This report, revealed on Tuesday by Mediapart, reports “homophobic and sexist” drifts and practices that do not comply with the law at the private Catholic school Stanislas, where the children of the new Minister of Education, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, are enrolled.

The City of Paris is “surprised” that the report “has not been officially transmitted to the authorities funding this institution, and requests that this communication take place as soon as possible.” It also “requests from the State the transmission of the action plan following this report, which has also been echoed in the press.”

Contacted, the city of Paris emphasizes that the “payment of the upcoming installments” to the institution for the current year will be suspended, without further details.

“We expect, on one hand, that the State transmits the report to us, and on the other hand, that it specifies what measures it intends to take” following the publication of this report, adds the city.
