Ligue 2: Paris FC’s Stéphane Gili aims for a winning streak

A sigh of relief. The Paris FC has bounced back after a tough start to the season (with 4 losses in the first 5 matches), by defeating co-leader Amiens 3-0 last Saturday. This victory has allowed the capital club to escape the relegation zone for the first time, now sitting at 15th place.

Head coach Stéphane Gilli described it as a “great performance against a team in top form. Offensively, we were strong and we were able to rectify many individual mistakes from our previous matches. I had almost the entire squad available, which allowed us to revert back to our preferred 4-2-3-1 formation. The win against Amiens gives us credibility and boosts our confidence. Now, we must keep the momentum going!”

The PFC now faces three matches within eight days, starting with a trip to Ajaccio this Saturday (7pm). This will be followed by a home game against Laval on Tuesday at the Stade de l’Aube in Troyes, before another away fixture on September 30th in Annecy. Gilli added, “We are focused on Ajaccio. The Corsicans just suffered a loss (3-0 against Guingamp) and they will be eager to bounce back. We may also encounter a difficult playing surface.”

Relegated from Ligue 1, AC Ajaccio is struggling at the start of the season with 4 winless matches and currently sits at 17th place, just above the relegation zone. Lamine Gueye is ruled out due to injury. Meanwhile, defender Timothée Kolodziejczak, who joined the PFC in early September after leaving Schalke 04 (German second division), is not yet at 100% to make his first appearance with the team. Gilli asserted, “Our objective is to go on a winning streak. We need to repeat the same performance as against Amiens in order to secure a positive result.”

Overall, the Paris FC is hopeful that their recent victory will mark a turning point for their season and provide the necessary drive to climb up the standings.
