The Council of State Upholds Paris Administrative Court’s Rejection

The show by Dieudonné and Francis Lalanne, which was supposed to take place on September 14th at the Zénith in Paris, will not happen. The decision of the administrative court of Paris to reject the interim relief against the ban on the show has been confirmed by the Council of State.

The Council of State confirmed on Tuesday the decision of the administrative court of Paris to reject the interim relief filed by controversial comedian Dieudonné against the ban by the prefect of police on his new show in the capital for “lack of urgency.”

“The interim relief judge of the administrative court of Paris rightly considered that the condition of particular urgency was not met,” according to a decision by the highest administrative jurisdiction.

“It appears from the investigation conducted by the interim relief judge of the administrative court of Paris that, by a letter dated September 6, 2023, addressed to the production company of this show, the Zénith de Paris terminated with immediate effect the contract binding it to the production company of the show (…) because of the non-compliance with several contractual obligations, and consequently published on its website the mention of the cancellation of the show,” added the Council of State.

Risks of public disorder

Dieudonné and anti-vaxxer singer Francis Lalanne were scheduled to perform on September 14th at the Zénith in Paris for their new show “La Cage aux Fous”.

The prefect of police in the capital, Laurent Nuñez, had decided on Wednesday to ban the show, particularly due to “serious risks (…) of serious disturbances to public order.” Laurent Nuñez had specified that it was “public knowledge that the content of previous shows” by Dieudonné “apologized for discrimination, persecution and extermination perpetrated during the Second World War.”

In response, Francis Lalanne and Dieudonné had filed two separate appeals with the administrative court.
