FC St. Pauli on Track for Promotion
The Kiez kickers, FC St. Pauli, have been knocking on the door of the second division this season, and central defender Jakov Medic has been playing a major role in their success. The Croatian is in a great mood for the season finale and reveals St. Pauli’s promotion advantage.
Medic, however, does not make any big comments about the competition. Instead, he focuses on the positives that speak for his team at the moment. “We don’t have to put any pressure on ourselves. We’re feeling really good. All we need is to have fun with football.”
Focused on the Next Game
St. Pauli’s success in recent weeks has been attributed to their focus on the next game. The remaining fixtures are yet to come, and Medic knows that they are still set to play against all the teams at the top. “That’ll be interesting. We always have to give 100 percent – then we’ll see what comes next.”
A Strong Defense
St. Pauli’s defense has been particularly strong this second half of the season, thanks in part to Medic. He is now in top shape again after undergoing shoulder surgery, and their record of only three goals in eight wins speaks for itself.
Medic explains that they worked hard on their defensive strategy during the winter break, from front to back. Loan defender Karol Mets has also been an enormous support. “With his experience and his strong left foot, he’s doing a good job. We work really well together.”
Despite garnering interest from Bundesliga teams like Stuttgart, Medic remains focused on his current task with St. Pauli. “I’m not so concerned about my future at the moment, I’m thinking about the next tasks with St. Pauli.”
