450 people (according to the police headquarters) demonstrated in the rain in Paris this Saturday, carrying various signs including one demanding the “destitution” of Emmanuel Macron.

Several hundred “yellow vests”, 450 according to the police headquarters, marched through the streets of Paris on Saturday afternoon to mark the fifth anniversary of the movement.

The demonstrators took to the streets in the rain around 2:30 pm from Place Franz Liszt (10th arrondissement), with neon fabric on their shoulders, where drums were resonating and some protesters waved a “#Destitution” banner in front of the church of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, an AFP journalist observed.

Others carried signs that read “Vests at the end of my dreams” and sang loudly “We are here” or “The Macronie is disgusting.”

In the morning, at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe, dozens of demonstrators sprayed yellow paint in the rain, quickly stopped by the police intervention.

Eight people were arrested without incident, according to the Paris police headquarters.

Authorities did not expect gatherings of the same magnitude this weekend as those five years ago, but rather, according to a police source, symbolic actions by “facetious yellow vests.”

The “yellow vests” movement, born in the fall of 2018 against Emmanuel Macron’s policies and the high cost of living, has been less active in recent months. A year ago, the Parisian demonstration marking their fourth anniversary had brought together 680 people, according to the police.
