ChatGPT: Official iPhone app available in Germany

The popular chatbot provider, OpenAI, has made its ChatGPT client available to download on iPhones in various countries, including Germany. The app has been designed exclusively for iPhones and requires iOS 16.1 or later. An Android version will follow soon.

To use ChatGPT, customers must create an account. They can also use their existing OpenAI accounts to access chat history and ChatGPT Plus if they already subscribed to it. It is also possible to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus via Apple’s in-app purchase interface, which costs €23 per month in Germany.

ChatGPT Plus provides access to the newer language model GPT-4. While there are legitimate apps for accessing the chatbot, there are also countless apps from other providers with common fleeceware tricks and subscription traps. These apps often use prominent advertising placements in Apple’s advertising network in the App Store and take advantage of Apple’s automatic subscription renewal system.

Apple has taken action against apps that use the name “ChatGPT” directly, but many of these apps have appeared under a different name. It is necessary to keep an eye out for these subscription traps and read the fine print before subscribing.
