Survey: Majority of Germans would not change the time

Germans Want to Abolish Time Change, Survey Finds

A recent survey conducted by research institute Yougov found that 75 percent of Germans are in favor of abolishing the time change. Only 18 percent of those questioned want to continue to move forward and backward. As in most European countries, the clocks will be put forward from 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. to daylight saving time on Sunday (March 26).

When compared with six other European countries, Germans were found to be the most strongly against time change. The poll also revealed majority support for an end to time change in Sweden (58 percent), Denmark (56 percent) and France (49 percent). Meanwhile, Italians (56 percent), Spaniards (46 percent) and Britons (45 percent) all want to keep turning the hands.

If time change were to be abolished, Germans would prefer to keep summer time and do without winter time, with 48 percent supporting this option and 37 percent preferring winter time. However, the law still requires the double setting of the clocks, with the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig responsible for display and dissemination.
