For the Paris Games, France Will Receive Support from Foreign Military and Police

In order to secure the Olympic Games this summer, France requested “46 foreign partners” in January for “nearly 2,185 reinforcements of domestic security forces”. These personnel will support the approximately 35,000 police officers and 18,000 French military personnel mobilized.

The French government has called for assistance from several foreign nations, including Poland, to send military and police forces to help secure the Olympic Games in Paris this summer. Nearly 45,000 police officers and gendarmes will be mobilized in Île-de-France for the unprecedented opening ceremony on the Seine on July 26th. Additionally, 18,000 French military personnel will be involved in the Games, in addition to the approximately 35,000 police officers and gendarmes.

Poland, through its Minister of Defense, announced its involvement in the international coalition set up by France to support the preparation and security of the 2024 Summer Olympics. The mission will include sniffer dogs tasked with detecting explosives and terrorism.

A “task force” for the Olympics has been established, with the French Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces visiting Poland on Thursday. In January, France requested “46 foreign partners” for “nearly 2,185 reinforcements of domestic security forces”. Germany has also indicated that they will send police officers for the Olympics.

It is important to take into account the spectator experience, address the capacity challenge of the Games, and enhance international cooperation. The need for sniffer dogs is significant to detect explosive materials, considering potential security threats during the Olympics.

Before the attack on a concert hall near Moscow, the security level in France was raised to its maximum level due to potential terrorist threats. A meeting was held with intelligence agencies to assess the implications of the Moscow attack.

French police, gendarmerie, and intelligence services are preparing to ensure security at the Paris Olympics this summer. The unprecedented opening ceremony on the Seine has been modified for security reasons, with fewer spectators allowed and strict scrutiny of all attendees.
