First Drive Impressions: Mini Cooper SE’s New Electric Edition

Electric car Mini Cooper SE: first exit with the new edition

The Mini Cooper electric car has been given an update to improve its battery and charging capabilities. The previous version was successful but expensive and had a small battery, however, around 20% of all Mini three-door models were electric. The new version is expected to have at least as much fun driving but with the addition of a faster-charging battery.

The Mini Cooper SE comes with two drives and two battery sizes, the Cooper E provides 135 kW of power, and the Cooper SE offers 160 kW with a battery capacity of 54 kWh. The previous battery was also upgraded for a better range, with a maximum range under WLTP of 450 km, and at least double the charging capacity, though official data has not yet been released.

The Mini Cooper SE was test driven in wet conditions, and it was found that the car remained steady on the road despite temperatures just above freezing. The new mini has improved traction, suspension, and damping, making it more comfortable on normal roads without sacrificing agility. It also has a smoother braking system and can be controlled easily even in tight curves, with the option of intervening but only after the rear wheel has been caught.

The top-of-the-line model accelerates more vehemently, which gives the car significant power on the road but is less about absolute driving performance and more about having instant acceleration at any time. The interior features a large display with high resolution, and a head-up display on a small, extendable panel. The optional leather seats have been removed, leaving customers with a choice between fabric and imitation leather.

The car is still aimed at those who want the luxury of a BMW product, so the pricing is expected to be around 40,000 euros for the better-equipped version, and buyers can console themselves with the fact that the performance and price ratio is better than before.
