Fiete Arp Makes a Comeback as Kiel’s Heart Project in HSV

HSV – ex-fan favorite returns: Fiete Arp is now Kiel's heart project

Fiete Arp Returns to Volkspark with Holstein Kiel

Former Hamburger SV (HSV) jewel Fiete Arp will be returning to the Volkspark with his current club, Holstein Kiel, on Saturday. It will be the striker’s fourth meeting with his old club, but this encounter will always be special for the former fan favourite.

Arp held two records as an HSV player. He became the youngest HSV Bundesliga goal scorer in history at the age of 17 years, nine months, and 22 days, after scoring his first Bundesliga goal in a 1-2 draw at Hertha BSC on October 28, 2017. Additionally, he was the first first-division professional born in this millennium to score a goal.

However, after his 3 million transfer to Bayern in 2019, Arp has been trying to get his career back on track since 2021 with Holstein Kiel (contract until 2024). The attacker has not yet made the big breakthrough, scoring only two goals in 24 appearances last season and one goal and two assists in 21 games this season.

Nonetheless, the entire club, from the presidency and coaching team to the team, supports Arp in all situations. The reactivation of his career has become a Kiel heart project. He is highly regarded for his character, being collegial, helpful, and always willing to learn. Arp has been giving his best in every training session, aiming to improve his game.

Holstein coach Marcel Rapp even tried Arp on the flank at the last winter training camp in Oliva Nova (Spain) to find a position in the team for the actual shock striker. However, he has not yet found his place in the team. Among the 21 appearances this season, only one game lasted over 90 minutes, and he was substituted in and out for the rest of the season.

Although Steven Skrzybski, Fabian Reese, and Otschi Wriedt lead the Kiel storm, Arp’s commitment and will cannot be denied. The club will wait patiently for his breakthrough and hope that he might succeed against HSV on Saturday.
