FC Bayern Parts Ways with Coach Nagelsmann, as Per Media Reports

Reports Confirm Nagelsmann’s Departure from Bayern Munich

According to reports from “Bild” and “Kicker”, coach Julian Nagelsmann’s departure from Bayern Munich is a done deal. The 35-year-old coach’s dismissal appears to be imminent, and former Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel could be the favorite for his possible successor.

FC Bayern Munich is apparently separating from coach Julian Nagelsmann with immediate effect. This is reported by the picture on Thursday evening. Shortly before, sports journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano wrote exclusively on Twitter about the club’s considerations of separating from the 35-year-old coach. A confirmation from Munich was initially not available. A little later, the kicker also reported accordingly.

Tuchel Likely to Replace Nagelsmann

According to Romano, as well as according to Bild and Kicker, former Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel should be the favorite for a possible Nagelsmann successor. It was said that Tuchel should lead the training on Monday. According to Sky, the team is said to have already been informed about Nagelsmann’s departure and Tuchel’s commitment.

Nagelsmann’s Performance and Criticism

Nagelsmann switched from Bundesliga competitor RB Leipzig to Bayern in 2021 for the record transfer fee of allegedly up to 25 million euros and was given a five-year contract. In his first season, he won the club’s tenth consecutive league title. But there was also criticism because both in the DFB Cup (0:5 in round two at Borussia Mönchengladbach) and in the Champions League (0:1, 1:1 in the quarter-finals against Spanish outsiders FC Villarreal) came to an early end.

In the current season, getting through to the round of 16 in the premier class against the star ensemble from Paris Saint-Germain (1-0, 2-0) was also rated as Nagelsmann’s merit. In the Bundesliga, however, Munich recently fell back to second place behind Borussia Dortmund with a 2-1 defeat in Leverkusen.

Big Game Between Bayern and BVB

On April 1 (6.30 p.m., Sky) Bayern and BVB, who are now one point better, will meet directly in the top game of the 26th matchday in the Allianz Arena. Bayern President Herbert Hainer recently defended Nagelsmann in a Kicker interview: “You can see clear progress in the year and a half. Julian is doing very well. The coaching discussion in between came from outside, we didn’t start it off the fence.”

Tuchel’s Coaching History

The alleged top candidate for a possible Nagelsmann successor, Thomas Tuchel, last coached Chelsea from January 2021 to September 2022, with whom he won the Champions League in 2021 after only four months in office. Previously, he was in charge of PSG from 2018 to 2020. Among other things, he won the French championship twice with the French. In the Bundesliga, the 49-year-old looked after Mainz 05 (2009 to 2014) and Borussia Dortmund (2015 to 2017). With BVB he won the DFB Cup in 2017.
