Eva Green Wins Lawsuit Against Producers of ‘A Patriot’
Thanks to ‘Dreamers’, Eva Green has been working tirelessly since its launch, with no complaints about her professionalism in any of her projects. However, her image took a hit when she was sued by the producers of ‘A Patriot’, a sci-fi film that never saw the light of day due to various issues.
Despite her fears that being associated with the failed film could harm her career, Eva Green came out as the victor in court. Not only did she prove that she was not responsible for the film’s failure, but she also won a settlement of 1 million dollars without having to even shoot the movie.
The Making of ‘A Patriot’
The film that was supposed to transport viewers into a world of climate chaos and resources war had everything in place to become a reality. Eva Green signed on to star in ‘A Patriot’ in May 2019, with Helen Hunt and Charles Dance set to join her as the lead cast members.
However, the project fell apart, leading the producers to sue Eva Green, accusing her of being responsible for the project’s failures. Eva Green fired back by suing them for breach of contract and won the case three years later.
The Legal Battle and Its Revelations
The legal battle was a bitter one and involved several revelations, including Eva Green’s personal WhatsApp messages that were made public. In them, she didn’t hold back in expressing her views on the film, calling it “a shitty B-movie” and labeling the executive producer, Jake Seal, as “pure vomit” and a “twisted sociopath”.
The ruling favored Eva Green over Jake Seal, with the judge pointing out that he “was sometimes condescending, sarcastic and demeaning” and that he may have come across as aggressive to others. While the judge expressed some disappointment with Eva Green’s testimony, she concluded that the actress had not breached the contract, thereby dismissing the White Lantern Film company’s arguments.
Eva Green’s Public Response
Eva Green expressed her joy over the victory in a message on her Instagram account. She stated that she was proud to have stood up to the producers and their “thug tactics” and that the judge had exposed the “false accusations” that they had made against her in court documents.
Eva Green’s victory in court over ‘A Patriot’ has given her some peace of mind, allowing her to focus on her current projects, including the highly-acclaimed ‘The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan’.
