Dieudonné’s appeal against the ban on his show at Paris’ Zénith theater rejected

The multidually condemned artist for anti-Semitism was supposed to perform in a duo with the conspiracy singer Francis Lalanne on Thursday, September 14th. The prefecture of police had decided to ban the show, specifically due to risks of public disorder.

The administrative court of Paris rejected the interim appeal filed by Dieudonné against the ban on his new show in the capital on Monday, September 11th, for “lack of urgency”. “The condition of particular urgency, which is required for the intervention of the interim judge…is not met in this case,” the administrative judge stated, according to a statement from the court.

“The Zenith company had terminated the contract with the production company of the show and therefore prohibited access to the venue,” added the judge, also stating that “it was not for the administrative jurisdiction to know the reason for the dispute related to this termination.” “As a result, without ruling on the condition related to the grave and manifestly illegal infringement of a fundamental freedom that would have been caused by the administration, the interim judge rejected both requests,” the court statement clarified.

“Serious risks of serious disturbances to public order”

The multi-condemned comedian Dieudonné and the conspiracy singer Francis Lalanne were supposed to perform on Thursday, September 14th at the Zenith in Paris for their new show, “la Cage aux fous”.

The prefect of police for the capital, Laurent Nuñez, decided on Wednesday to ban the show, specifically due to “serious risks…of serious disturbances to public order”. Laurent Nuñez stated that it was “common knowledge that the content of previous shows” by Dieudonné “promoted discrimination, persecution, and extermination during the Second World War”. Francis Lalanne and Dieudonné subsequently filed two separate appeals with the administrative court of Paris. The two artists can now challenge this decision before the Council of State.
