Damian van der Vaart Makes Debut for Holland National Team

Debut in the Oranje jersey: Damian van der Vaart is now a Holland international

A New van der Vaart in the Dutch National Team?

Over nine years after Rafael van der Vaart’s last international match (0-0 against Colombia), his son Damian is following in his footsteps. The 16-year-old midfielder recently lost 2-0 to Belgium with the Dutch U17, and his next target is to be part of the U18 national team. However, to achieve this, Damian will need to change clubs from Esbjerg (Denmark) to his parents’ home country this summer.

SC Heerenveen is considered to be the most promising candidate for a change in the young player’s club. Rafael van der Vaart (40 years old and with 19 U17 international matches to his name) confirmed that his son has made significant progress over the past three years, and the potential for a football career is there. Damian currently plays for Esbjerg in both the U17s and the men’s team (3rd Danes Liga); however, he’ll need to make a bigger move if he wants to be in the national team.

Damian made his U17 debut in February 2021 in the match between the Dutch and Luxembourg, where they drew 2-2 in Wiltz. His father, Rafael, was an eyewitness to the match and expressed his pride, saying that his son did his job well. His father also assured fans that Damian is not burdened by the famous family name and only needs to focus on his performance.

The son of ex-HSV star Rafael and TV star Sylvie Meis is making progress on his football career, and fans are looking forward to seeing whether he’ll be the new van der Vaart in the Dutch national team.
