Since Processors and mainboards with PCI Express 5.0 have been available for some time, but the slots on the boards have been unused up to now: The manufacturers have not come out of the woods with the associated SSDs and faster graphics cards are not yet on the market either.
But the first PCIe 5.0 SSDs are finally here. We have three of them on the test bench: Crucial T700 PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD, the Gigabyte Aorus Gen5 10000 SSD and the Nextorage NE5N.
There are also the PCIe 4.0 SSDs Corsair Force Series MP600 Mini in 2230 M.2 format and the 2280 SSDs MSI Spatium M461, Silicon Power UD85 and Verbatim Vi7000 PCIe NVMe SSD.
The Mushkin Element and the Verbatim Vi3000 PCIe NVMe SSD compete in the ever smaller 3.0 class. Other interesting models didn’t make it into the test, including the Samsung 990 Pro with its own heat sink and the Lexar SSD NM790.
We don’t need to test the Corsair MP600 Pro LPX: It only differs from the MP600 Pro XT in terms of the heat sink and, unlike the XT, fits into the Playstation 5. It thus joins the growing series of SSDs that manufacturers are developing specifically for the PS5 and are sometimes selling at significantly higher prices.
