AVM introduces energy saving mode with new Fritzbox beta firmwares

AVM: New Fritzbox beta firmwares test new energy saving mode

AVM has released new development snapshots of Fritzbox firmwares, with particular emphasis on the addition of an energy-saving mode. The Fritzbox 7590 AX, Fritzbox 7590, Fritzbox 7530 AX, Fritzbox 7530, and Fritzbox 7490 are all included in the laboratory firmware. If you already use laboratory firmware and have not disabled automatic updates, you should now be able to find the latest versions on your router. To access the energy-saving mode, navigate to “System” in “Energy monitor.” However, the release notes do not provide details on how the function works, other than noting that it operates WLAN, LAN, and USB in an energy-saving manner.

While the update includes various improvements and bug fixes, including system stability for the Fritzbox 7530 AX, the energy-saving option is not available on all models. The Fritzbox 7590 AX, for example, only features a fixed channel reboot issue, while the Fritzbox 7490 has only seen minor bug fixes and improved WLAN performance. In addition to energy-saving mode, the Fritzbox energy monitor also offers statistical information on processor load and temperature, as well as memory usage.

Interested users can try the new energy-saving mode to test its advantages without undesired side effects. However, as it is beta firmware, some unpredictable bugs may appear. While many energy-saving tips from the internet ultimately prove useless, the addition of an energy-saving mode to Fritzbox firmware may provide a more practical solution for conserving energy.
