Apple Supports Labor Market Reforms Advocating for Extended Work Hours in India

Labor market reforms: Apple wants longer working hours for all of India

Apple has been lobbying for labour market reforms in India, with the aim of bringing the country’s working conditions in line with those in China. Bloomberg reports that such steps would include increasing the maximum working day from nine to 12 hours per employee and raising the number of allowed overtime hours in a quarter from 75 to 145. Companies such as Apple and Foxconn are working with regional governments to encourage production sites, particularly for iPhones, in India. Meanwhile, Apple and its manufacturers are reportedly aiming to build women’s hostels near their factories to increase the numbers of female employees.
