Nvidia’s New GeForce RTX 4060 Graphics Card for Under 400 Euros in 2 Years

GeForce RTX 4060: Nvidia's first graphics card for less than 400 euros in 2 years

Nvidia has announced the release of its new mid-range graphics card from the Ada Lovelace GPU generation. The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti with 8 GB of memory will be released on May 24, 2023. A 16 GB version and the GeForce RTX 4060 will follow in July as the cheapest 4000 model. The good news is that Nvidia is not significantly increasing the price recommendations unlike its previous RTX 4000 graphics cards. The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB will cost 439 euros in Germany and $399 in the USA. The GeForce RTX 4060 will be cheaper in the US at $299 than the RTX 3060.

Nvidia is advertising the performance increase of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti through DLSS 3 and its frame generation. However, this only works in a few games. Nvidia shies away from comparison with the GeForce RTX 3070, especially in WQHD resolution (2560 × 1440 pixels). Although the raw performance increases slightly thanks to high clock frequencies, the memory transfer rate drops by 36 percent to 288 GB/s. Nvidia, therefore, explicitly advertises the RTX 4060 Ti as a 1080p graphics card.

The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti with 16 GB of memory is almost no faster than the 8 GB version in almost every game, according to Nvidia’s benchmarks. Its advantages are primarily expected in poorly optimized titles. The surcharge is steep at 110 euros. The recommended price for the GeForce RTX 4070 is 549 euros, which is likely to be significantly faster and also suitable for 1440p gaming.

The new Nvidia mid-range graphics cards’ performance increases only incrementally; however, progress has been made primarily in terms of efficiency. The GeForce RTX 4060 is sufficient with a maximum of 115 watts, and even the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB is slightly more frugal than the RTX 3060 (not Ti) with 165 watts. One restriction affects users who are still using a system with PCI Express 3.0. All 4060 graphics cards, including the Ti variants, are only connected via eight PCIe 4.0 lanes.

In conclusion, Nvidia has released new mid-range graphics cards from the Ada Lovelace GPU generation. The performance of the new graphics cards has only increased incrementally. However, they are more efficient than their predecessors. The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti with 8 GB of memory will be released on May 24, 2023, with the 16 GB version and the GeForce RTX 4060 following in July. The recommended retail prices are not significantly higher than their predecessors, and they are expected to be widely available.
