Apple Brings Firmware Updates On Site for AirPods Compatibility with Android and More

AirPods with Android & Co: Apple imports firmware updates on site

Apple Supports AirPods with Other Operating Systems
Apple has now made it easier for Android, Windows and other non-Apple device users to have firmware updates installed directly onto their AirPods in the store. According to an updated support document, the user can schedule an update at either an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Reseller, if the user’s Apple device is not nearby. However, the support document is currently only available in the English language, and the update is only offered on site, with no mail-in service.

Automatic Firmware Updates for AirPods
The AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max receive firmware updates automatically if paired within Bluetooth range to an iPad or iPhone. The update can also be carried out on a Mac with the latest operating system version. The Bluetooth connection between an Apple device and AirPods provides additional functions like the Siri language assistant system, as well as Dolby Atmos use. Non-Apple devices may use them as an ordinary Bluetooth headset for listening to music and making phone calls.

Regular Firmware Updates
Apple regularly releases new firmware for all AirPods, except for the very first generation. It provides bug fixes and “other improvements”, according to Apple. The latest update to version 5E133 was released on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, it is not possible for owners of Apple hardware to install the update manually. The AirPods must be in their charging box for the automatic update to take place.

Beats Firmware Update
The Apple subsidiary company, Beats, makes it easier for its customers to update its product’s firmware. For example, AirPods Pro alternative Beats Fit Pro updates can be easily imported from a smartphone via the Beats app.
