Anne Hidalgo excludes nothing, but says she is focused on the Olympics

Anne Hidalgo has hinted that she may run for re-election in 2026 as Paris mayor, but she says she is currently focused on her job. This comes in response to Rachida Dati, the new French Minister of Culture and a leading figure in the Parisian right, who has confirmed that she will run for mayor in 2026. Hidalgo says she is concentrated on the success of the Olympics and will decide on her re-election bid after the games.

Dati’s recent appointment to the government has changed the dynamics of the mayoral race, potentially opening the door for an alliance between the Macron camp and the local right. However, Hidalgo remains critical of Dati’s candidacy, suggesting that the official candidate of the ruling party has historically not fared well in Paris.

The ongoing verbal sparring between Hidalgo and Dati has created tensions in the Parisian political arena. Hidalgo has expressed relief at the reduced presence of Dati in the city council, citing years of insults and constant jabs from her rival. Meanwhile, other potential candidates are starting to position themselves for a mayoral run in 2026.
