Alexander Bommes Returns to TV: A Look at his Successful Comeback

ARD presenter Alexander Bommes ends a long break from TV – this is how the comeback went

Alexander Bommes Makes a Comeback on “Sportschau” After Health Break

Famous figurehead of ARD, Alexander Bommes, made a long-awaited comeback on the “Sportschau” last Saturday evening after a four-month break due to health reasons. Bommes, who is a moderator for various programs at the public broadcaster, is best known for his involvement in various sporting events and the quiz show “Gefraget – Gejagt.”

The 47-year-old failed for the first time in November 2022 due to health reasons and had to cancel his moderation schedule for the World Cup in Qatar and the Handball World Cup in Poland and Sweden. In January, Bommes updated his health status, saying he wanted to “complete further recovery” after a year in which he had to accept health restrictions like many others.

There were many speculations about the reason for his break, with the “Bild” newspaper claiming that he had been infected with COVID-19 and had struggled with symptoms of Long Covid. However, the official reason given by the broadcaster was “a series of infections.”

Despite his absence from the screens, the “Sportschau” continued smoothly, with Jessy Wellmer and Esther Sedlaczek stepping in for him. At the Handball World Cup, Stephanie Müller-Spirra took over for him.

While prepping for his moderation schedule, Bommes will also work on new productions for the famous quiz show “Asked – Hunted”. The show is expected to resume airing in the summer of 2023 after new episodes are recorded in April.

Fans of Bommes can now breathe a sigh of relief as he finally returns to the screens to continue his role in sports broadcasting.
