Who will be the Picard athletes at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games?

Many athletes born in Picardy or who have arrived there later, or even left the region to practice their sport elsewhere, all hope to shine a spotlight on their region at the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris this summer. Some are already qualified, while others are waiting until the last moment to secure their spot.

Mewen Tomac, at 22 years old, is expected to be a standout athlete from Picardy at the Olympics. With a previous Olympics under his belt, Mewen Tomac, a swimmer from the Amiens Metropolis club, has already secured his first international medals in individual events at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in December.

Other athletes from the Amiens Metropolis Club, such as Roman Fuchs and Emma Terebo, are also hoping to compete in Paris. Meanwhile, athletes like Thomas Le Pape and Mélanie Henique, who are closely connected to Amiens, will be striving to make their mark at the Games.

In addition to swimming, athletes from the Amiens University Club are also aiming for Olympic qualification in various sports, including athletics and para-athletics. Sprinter Stella Akakpo, long jumper Erwan Konaté, and javelin thrower Jean-Baptiste Bruxelle will be among those hoping to secure their spot at the Games.

Picardie may also be represented in cycling events, with Arnaud Demare aiming for a spot in the road cycling team and cyclists Corentin Ermenault and Valentin Tabellion aiming for a place in the pursuit team.

Athletes from the region are also looking to make their mark in breakdancing, triathlon, and shooting events. The road to Paris will be long and challenging for many, but the athletes are determined to make their mark on the international stage.
