What are these key boxes multiplying in RATP stations in Paris?

A system that is likely to be a hit as the Olympics approach. Since October 2022, RATP has been offering Paris residents the option to leave their keys in “secure key lockers” located in various metro stations in the Parisian network.

Three packages offered: “This urban service aims to make your daily life easier and combines utility with pleasure. This service is accessible at the entrance of the station without a transport ticket,” the company details in a press release.

The concept is simple: a person reserves a locker in one of the five RATP stations offering this service on Monkey Locky, the company that created the concept. The user receives a secret code that is then passed on to a chosen person. A service that can be used “for safely exchanging keys within the family, as a solution for friends, among students and roommates, or for renting out your apartment.”

This trick could be very useful during this summer’s Olympics where many Parisians plan to rent or sublet their accommodations. For those wanting to use a locker, three rental packages are offered: daily, monthly, and yearly, with prices ranging from 4.90 euros per day to 22.90 euros per month.

Here are the five metro stations offering this service: Denfert-Rochereau (lines 4 and 6), Montparnasse-Bienvenüe (lines 4, 6, 12 and 13), Hôtel de Ville (lines 1 and 11), Etienne Marcel (line 4), and Opéra (lines 3, 7, and 8).

These “key boxes” are not only found in metro stations. Several hundred supermarkets, such as Carrefour and Franprix, are partners in the operation. All lockers can be found directly on the Monkey Locky website.
