The Bahrain-Victorious rider won the fourth stage of Paris-Nice after a nearly 30 km breakaway with Australian Luke Plapp.
The first showdown between leaders delivered its verdict. Escaped in the penultimate difficulty of the day with Luke Plapp (Team Jayco-AlUla), Bahrain-Victorious climber Santiago Buitrago outpaced his opponent and won solo on Wednesday, March 6, at the summit of Mont Brouilly during the fourth stage of Paris-Nice. Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek) won the sprint of the favorites ahead of Remco Evenepoel and took third place in the stage, 37 seconds behind the winner. In the general classification, Luke Plapp takes the lead by 13 seconds ahead of the Colombian and American Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates), the yellow jersey before this stage. The big loser of the day, David Gaudu, fell 25 km from the finish and finished six minutes behind Santiago Buitrago.
