Valérie Pécresse on Paris 2024 Games: Transportation will be ready!

The president of the Île-de-France region assured that the transportation would be ready for the Olympic Games. She pointed out that there were many pessimistic predictions before the Rugby World Cup but it turned out to be a success. The event allowed the testing of the Stade de France’s transportation and security, which is highly beneficial.

Another point of contention is the announcement of the metro ticket price doubling to 4 euros during the Olympics and Paralympics, up from the current cost of 2 euros. Pécresse defended this by stating that the transportation service will increase by 15% during the Games with an estimated additional cost of 200 million euros.

Valérie Pécresse, President of the Île-de-France region, emphasized that it is fair for visitors to pay for their transportation. She rejected the idea of burdening regular commuters with the cost, which would have resulted in a 7€ increase in the monthly pass Navigo. Pécresse stated that it is only right for visitors to cover the cost of transportation.

According to Pécresse, the maximum price of an unlimited transport pass during the Games period will be 16€ per day. She also noted that the promise of free transportation for spectators was made by the Games organizing committee, which in 2021 stated that it would not be able to uphold that promise.

In terms of security, the President of the Île-de-France region announced the reinforcement of 45,000 law enforcement officers for transportation and the opening ceremony.
