AVM Releases New FritzOS Update for Fiber Optic Users

AVM has recently released the FritzOS version 7.50 update for its users, particularly those with fiber optic connections using the Fritzbox 5590 Fiber and 5530 Fiber. The firmware update brings a series of new functions and technical improvements that were previously available only for DSL and cable routers, as well as repeaters. The FritzOS 7.50 update is now available for several AVM products, including the Optical Fibre: Fritzbox 5590 Fiber, 5530 FiberDSL: Fritzbox 7590 AX, 7590, 7583, 7583 VDSL, 7530, 7520, 7510, and Kabel: Fritzbox 6690 Cable and 6591 Cable. Moreover, the update is also ready for repeaters such as Fritz-Repeater 3000, 2400 and 1200.

Updating to FritzOS Version 7.50

Users have two options to initiate the FritzOS version 7.50 update for their router. First, they can access the router’s web interface by typing “http://fritz.box/” or the router IP in their browser, logging in, and clicking on the version number in the top right-hand corner. The second way is by downloading the current images provided by AVM on its download page for the Fritzbox 5590 and Fritzbox 5530.

New Features of FritzOS Version 7.50 Update: Wireguard VPN and More

The most significant innovation in the FritzOS update is the integration of Wireguard VPN, which offers enhanced speed compared to IPsec. Users can now set up a VPN connection to their company’s network, especially for their home office work. With improved speed even in the non-finalized laboratory versions, users can benefit greatly from this new feature. In terms of Smart Home options, Fritzboxes also offer more flexible home automation management options with the new if/then rules, templates, scenarios, and routines. Moreover, other technical improvements can be found under the hood, including the introduction of Zero Wait Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) that ensures undisrupted WLAN operation when radar pulses interfere.

Still Waiting for the FritzOS 7.50 Update

Despite the recent release of the FritzOS 7.50 update, some users of DSL Fritzbox 7530 AX are still waiting for the update, as well as those who have cellular and Ethernet routers such as the 6890 LTE, 6850 5G, 6850 LTE, 6820 LTE, 4060, and 4040.
