Netflix Implements New Rules for German and Austrian Users
As of May 23, German and Austrian Netflix users are no longer permitted to share their accounts with individuals outside of their own households. In light of this new policy, concerns were raised regarding the use of second homes, holiday apartments and weekend houses. To address this issue, Netflix has released a support entry indicating that the identification of one’s primary location will be determined through the IP address of the internet connection being used. This means that users may still access Netflix in their second homes, as long as they connect to a different network.
In order to use the service in a second home, Netflix users must connect a mobile phone or tablet with the Netflix app installed to the Wi-Fi network of the main residence. This device must be logged in with the same account that is used on the TV app. Once the user reaches their second home, they must repeat this procedure to ensure that their TV and mobile device are in the same network and using the same account.
Once the mobile device is logged in, the account will be activated for 30 days according to Netflix. This can be repeated monthly to enable continuous use of a second location. However, users should keep in mind that accessing Netflix while abroad may result in a difference in available titles and age ratings.
If users move within their current country, they may need to update their primary location to continue accessing Netflix. Netflix provides a help section on the TV to make this update. Furthermore, users who have not yet set their main location will find that Netflix has already done so automatically.
