Ubisoft Announces More Games Coming to Steam

Ubisoft buckles: More games are coming to Steam

Ubisoft is set to release four of its games on Steam for the first time: “Far Cry 6”, “Riders Republic”, “Rainbow Six: Extraction” and “Monopoly Madness”. The open world shooter “Far Cry 6” is scheduled for release on May 11th, according to Steam listings that have been discovered by PCGamer.com.

Until now, these games were only available on Ubisoft’s own gaming platform and the Epic Games Store. The reason why they are being released on Steam at this particular time is unknown, as Ubisoft has not made any comment on the matter.

Back in 2019, Ubisoft began to withdraw its games from Steam, and since then, new titles haven’t been released on the platform. This decision was most likely motivated by the high commissions, which could go up to 30%, that Steam demanded. Ubisoft opted to use the Epic Games Store, where it only had to give up 12% of the sales generated from its games. If Ubisoft sold its games on its own platform, Ubisoft Connect, it got to keep the entire amount.

However, Ubisoft did not maintain this strategy for long. In 2022, they announced that they would soon offer several of their games on Steam again, including “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” and “Anno 1800”. Other titles such as “The Division 2” and “Watch Dogs: Legion” also followed later.

Ubisoft’s poor business figures at the beginning of the year forced the company to realign itself. Ubisoft had to lower its annual forecast from 830 million euros to 725 million euros. As a result, the French games company is now intending to focus more on its biggest brands and live service games in the future.

With the release of “Far Cry 6” on Steam, another top-class game from the Ubisoft catalog has now made its way back to the platform.
