Traffic severely disrupted after power outage

A power supply problem disrupted train traffic at Paris-Montparnasse station this Sunday.

The traffic was heavily disrupted at Montparnasse station on Sunday afternoon due to an electrical issue near Massy-Palaiseau (Essonne).

The majority of trains heading to and from the Southwest were affected. This includes the Paris-Bordeaux, Paris-Hendaye, and Paris-Toulouse lines. Delays of 30 minutes to 6 hours were observed.

On the forecourt of the station, affected travelers had to arm themselves with patience.

“I was supposed to take a train to Bordeaux and have a connection to Agen. These two hours of delay make me miss my connection in Bordeaux and the one in Agen,” regretted Charles, speaking to BFMTV.

Contacted, the SNCF “apologizes to the affected travelers for all the delays recorded this afternoon on the Atlantic network and remains mobilized for a prompt return to normal traffic.” An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the breakdown.

It stated that an Ouigo train was stuck in a tunnel near Massy.

“As the train could no longer continue its journey, a replacement train was sent from Paris Montparnasse to take care of the passengers. Bottles of water and meal boxes were distributed on board the replacement train,” it explains.

Travelers affected by this incident will receive compensation “up to 200%.” Passengers on about forty other trains will receive compensation under the G30 scheme.
