Sun, 32, has been serving a four-year and three-month suspension since February 2020 for smashing a sample of his blood taken during an unannounced doping control at his home in September 2018. He argued that the controllers did not have the necessary authorizations.
His suspension, which will end a few weeks before the Paris Olympics (26 July-11 August), has deprived him of the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and the Asian Games, held the following year in his hometown of Hangzhou.
However, the swimmer seems to have not given up on participating in the Games, which would be his fourth. “Swimming is an inseparable part of my life and will always be my passion,” he said on the social network Weibo. In London in 2012, Sun won Olympic gold in the 400m freestyle and the 1500m, silver in the 200m freestyle, and bronze in the 4x200m freestyle relay. Four years later in Rio, he was crowned in the 200m freestyle and won a silver medal in the 400m freestyle.
