Tutorials – Paris 2024: Tom Reux – Athletics

Double French champion (2021 and 2023) in discus throw, Tom Reux analyzes the discipline of discus throwing.

Approaching the Olympic Games in Paris, Tom Reux decrypts the secrets of discus throwing. At 24 years old, the double French champion is the ideal ambassador to delve into the subtleties of a discipline that has been part of the Olympic program since the first edition in 1896 for men and since 1928 for women at the Amsterdam Olympics. Mélina Robert-Michon is the last athlete to have won a medal in this discipline, specifically a silver in Rio in 2016.

The object is a one-kilo disc for women, two kilos for men, and a basic principle: “You have to firmly press your hand on the top of the disc, at the fingertips, which will allow you to rotate the disc well,” warns the French team athlete. Then it’s a three-step movement: the start, the turn, and the finish. “The body turns into an elastic band,” summarizes Tom Reux, with an image to support it.
