Marcus Thuram: Borussia’s Top Scorer but also the League’s Scoring Pro
At only 25 years old, Marcus Thuram has already established himself as an integral player for Borussia Mönchengladbach. Not only is he the team’s top scorer with 12 league goals, but he’s also a scoring machine for the Bundesliga.
Thuram is currently the league leader with a total of 76 shots on goal. If he had exploited 100 percent of his big chances this season, he could have already scored 28 goals, putting him on the trail of world footballer Robert Lewandowski.
Unfortunately, according to figures from the statistics provider “Deltatre,” Thuram has already missed out on 16 of his 22 great opportunities. This places him behind players like Frankfurt’s Kolo Muani and Bayern’s Leroy Sané in missed chances.
Borussia’s Struggle to Exploit Big Chances
Thuram is not the only player on Borussia Mönchengladbach struggling to convert big chances. According to Deltatre’s statistics, the team has only scored 16 of their 48 big chances, making them the worst team in the Bundesliga when it comes to exploiting 100%.
Coach Daniel Farke acknowledges that the team has missed many, many chances recently and that they need to improve the quality of using their big chances in the opponent’s penalty area. Being effective and scoring goals is vital at Bundesliga level.
A Defender with a 100% Yield on his Big Chances
Interestingly, only one player on Borussia Mönchengladbach has a 100% yield when it comes to exploiting big chances – and it’s not a striker. Defender Ramy Bensebaini has used all four of his mega chances to score, making him the only player on the team with a perfect conversion rate.
