To ensure the provision of a high-quality and affordable public funeral service for families, the municipality has decided to create a structure managed by an operator but under the control of local public actors, who are closest to the needs of the users.
The Public Limited Company for Paris Funeral Services (SPL FP) was created on June 28, 2023 by the City of Paris, in partnership with the Intercommunal Syndicate responsible for the operation of the cemetery-crematorium in Orme à Moineaux des Ulis (SICOMU), to implement public policies.
The structure is controlled by elected officials and must address environmental and societal issues in all its activities, sites, and delegants.
The SPL – FP aims to be a reference in terms of quality, ethics, and pricing in the Parisian territory. Its pricing offer is among the most competitive, ranking in the lower third of the lowest price offers for essential funeral services (coffin, bearers, procedures, hearse), while ensuring high-quality services certified by an independent body, AFNOR (French Standardization Association).
It aims to create an offer that can influence the prices in the Parisian market and curb the inflation of funeral prices in its territory.
The Public Local Company for Paris Funeral Services also has the mission of organizing funerals, managing a funeral home, and handling crises.
The SPL FP also has the responsibility of operating the external funeral service under a renewed public service delegation contract starting from December 1, 2024. Prior to that, it will be entrusted with the operation of the funeral home in the Batignolles neighborhood (17th arrondissement) under a public service delegation contract that will be renewed from March 1, 2024.
It also keeps an eye on societal needs to anticipate the needs of families and offers innovative services and free services such as online obituaries, digital condolence registers, and tools for post-death formalities.
It also fulfills public service missions such as crisis planning and organizing dignified funerals for individuals without resources.
