The New Arrow’s Rooster Finally Visible

The new shiny rooster is now visible at the top of the new spire of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. The reconstruction work, identical to the original, including the lead covering, is entering its final stages, with less than 300 days until the cathedral reopens. The unveiling of the pinnacle of the spire, a golden rooster raised at 96 meters high, is the latest milestone in the construction project.

Philippe Jost, president of Rebâtir Notre-Dame, the public establishment in charge of the work, expressed his satisfaction with this symbolic advance, stating, “Just as the fall of the spire in the fire was probably the most dramatic moment, rediscovering the spire now, completed in the Paris sky, I think it’s a very good symbol of this rebirth.” Local residents are also thrilled with this glimpse of the new look of Notre-Dame.

A historic work saved at the last moment
The symbolic rooster of Notre-Dame, placed on the new spire in December last year, was recreated according to its original model, found in the rubble of the fire. The historical piece, forged in 1835, is even more precious as it contains three relics.

After being restored, the original rooster is expected to join the collections of Notre-Dame.
