The Mayor of Paris’s Firm Statement on Parc des Princes

The major point of tension that is straining the relationship between the leaders of Paris Saint-Germain and the city of Paris is the Parc des Princes. QSI wants to buy the stadium located in the 16th arrondissement in order to carry out major renovations and expand the stadium’s capacity. Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, on the other hand, remains firm in her refusal to sell the Parc, at least at the amount proposed by PSG’s leadership. This has led to several episodes of tension and heated statements.

In an interview with Ouest-France, Anne Hidalgo reiterates her position with firmness. “I repeat: we are ready to study and support transformations of the Parc. I also say again today and once and for all: there will be no sale of the Parc des Princes, it is the heritage of the people of Paris. The matter is closed.” It remains to be seen how Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, PSG’s president, will react to this new public statement, especially after he warned in January: “if the city hall does not want to sell the Parc des Princes, we will leave, we will have no choice. It’s the worst choice and even if it hurts, we will have no choice. We deserve more respect for all the investments made in France and in Paris.”
