Apple Threatens British Government with Removal of Services

In a nine-page statement, Apple has strongly criticized the planned revision of the British surveillance law Investigatory Powers Act. The implementation of this law by the British government could result in popular Apple services, such as FaceTime or iMessage, being removed from the British market. Apple has stated that it will never weaken its security features for a single country, as it would affect all users. The company considers the new law to be a serious threat to data security and privacy, not only for people in the UK but for users around the world.

BSI Warns of Manipulated Chatbots

Due to the rapid development and integration of large AI language models into applications, some chatbots can now automatically evaluate websites or documents and even access programming environments or email inboxes. The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) has issued a Level 1 warning for this new class of vulnerabilities, aiming to raise public awareness about the risks and limitations associated with manipulated chatbots. A manipulated chatbot could potentially convincingly argue for an action that could have harmful consequences, similar to a social engineering attack.

Microsoft Introduces Backup and Archive for 365

At its Inspire 2023 in-house exhibition, Microsoft unveiled two new cloud tools for its 365 portfolio: Microsoft 365 Backup and Microsoft 365 Archive. These tools are aimed at companies and are designed for data management. The backup tool allows for the backing up of data from OneDrive, SharePoint, and Exchange, providing a solution to combat the increasing threats of ransomware encryption attacks and security breaches. The archive tool, on the other hand, helps companies manage the massive amount of data they generate. Storing all data in the 365 memory can quickly fill up the cloud storage, so the archive offers a more cost-effective option for securely storing data that may not be needed for day-to-day business.

Dolphin Emulator Will Not Be on Steam

The developers of the Wii emulator Dolphin have confirmed that the program will not be released on the Steam platform. This decision comes after several weeks of silence and is due to the inability to reach an agreement with Nintendo. Dolphin allows users to run games originally released for Nintendo GameCube and Wii on their PC. However, Nintendo expressed concern about the presence of the cryptographic keys of their consoles in the source code of the Dolphin emulator. As a result, there will be no Steam release of Dolphin.
