The Great Mosque of Paris Denounces Racist Violence by Neo-Nazi Militias

The Grand Mosque is once again worried about “the release of anti-Muslim speech.” The Grand Mosque of Paris has condemned “vandalism, insults and threats” that have recently targeted the mosques of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin (Manche) and Valence, in connection with the murder of young Thomas in the Drôme, and denounced “racist violence by neo-Nazi militias.”

“In several cities in France, far-right groups have organized racist attacks – in reality, real ‘ratonnades’ – during which hateful slogans targeting citizens of the Muslim faith have been uttered,” said Chems-eddine Hafiz, rector of the Grand Mosque of Paris, in a statement.

“These acts are unacceptable,” he added, pointing out “attacks conducted to further destabilize religious coexistence and the unity of the national community.” The Grand Mosque is once again worried about “the release of anti-Muslim speech in certain media and from certain political figures.”

“The unbearable death of young Thomas in Crépol, which we condemn and regret, cannot justify the racist violence of neo-Nazi militias.”

On Saturday night, dozens of masked militants from the identitarian movement, from all over France, gathered in Romans-sur-Isère (Drôme) “to settle scores,” according to authorities, with young people from the Monnaie neighborhood, some of whom are said to be involved in the death of Thomas.
