According to sports data provider Gracenote, the French team will finish this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris with 52 medals, including 27 golds, which would place them in 3rd place on the virtual medal table, far behind the United States.
“Our goal of finishing in the top 5 at the Olympics is more attainable than ever.” Between ambition and pressure, Emmanuel Macron dreams of seeing the French team finish among the top five nations in the world at the Paris Olympics (July 26 – August 11). And could this goal be within reach for the French? According to some projections, French athletes will shine in front of their home crowd.
With less than five months until the start of the Olympics, sports data provider Gracenote unveiled the virtual medal table on Thursday. Based on the results of major international competitions since the Tokyo Games in 2021 (updated monthly), the French team would win a total of 52 medals, including 27 golds. A great haul of Olympic titles that gives hope to Amélie Oudéa-Castéra: “France is and remains in the top 3 of the possibly most successful nations at the Paris Olympics in these medal projections,” the Minister of Sports, Olympic and Paralympic Games, praised on X. With 27 Olympic titles, the French team would nearly triple their total from 2021 and finish on the podium behind two nations tied for first place, the United States and China (37 gold medals).
Medals in 23 different sports
As for the total number of medals, the French team would meet the President’s objective with a 5th place and 52 medals won (57 gold, 14 silver, and 11 bronze). The French team’s tally would be significantly higher than that of the Tokyo Olympics (33 medals, including 10 golds). In terms of the total number of virtual medals, the French team would rank behind Japan (4th, 53 medals), Great Britain (3rd, 65), China (2nd, 85), and the leaders, the United States (121). In these projections, the French team would manage to win in 23 different sports compared to a range of between 15 and 19 sports since the 2000s.
