Terrorist Threats, Organization, Personnel… Justice Gets Ready

The justice system is preparing for the upcoming Olympic Games, as Eric Dupond-Moretti, the Minister of Justice, published a circular detailing the judicial system that will be in place for this “historic moment for our country”. The circular emphasizes the need for a strong and coordinated approach, similar to the one used during the riots in June 2023 and the Rugby World Cup. This preparation involves close collaboration with the Prefecture of Police, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Ministry of Sports.

The scale of the work is significant, with several appeals courts across the country being involved in the preparations. A total of seventeen jurisdictions will be engaged in the deployment of forces, as the competition will take place in various locations across the country. The international nature of the event also requires coordination with international partners and the consideration of issues like interpreters and victim support organizations.

This exceptional event also requires a focus on staffing, with the appointment of additional magistrates and court clerks to handle the increased workload. A total of 663 personnel, including 523 permanent positions, have been allocated to ensure the optimal functioning of the judicial system during the Olympic Games.

The circular also stresses the need for a strengthened coordination with local authorities, particularly in areas like Seine-Saint-Denis, where initiatives like the “zero delinquency” plan have been in place for over a year. This reflects the comprehensive approach being taken to ensure the smooth operation of the justice system during the upcoming event.
