Taxi strike calling for convergence in Paris this Monday, what to expect in the capital?

A taxi strike is scheduled to take place on March 4, 2024 in Paris. Taxi drivers are protesting against the “unsustainable new pricing” of the Health Insurance for seated patient transport. The strike will lead to traffic disruptions in Paris, including on the périphérique.

The main taxi unions, FNAT and FNDT, have called for drivers from Île-de-France and across the country to converge in Paris for the protest. They have stated that a minimum service will be maintained to ensure medical appointments are covered.

According to FNAT president Emmanuel Cordier, at least 2,000 taxis are expected to participate in the protest, all circulating on the périphérique starting from 8 AM. Multiple meeting points have been designated, with additional protests planned in cities like Bordeaux, Toulouse, and Rennes.

In response to the new “unsustainable” pricing by UNCAM for patient transport, taxi drivers in Paris will gather early in the morning and take various routes on highways like A1, A3, A4, A6, A13, and A89. Slow-moving operations and potential blockades are expected on the périphérique in the morning, followed by a gathering at Les Invalides at 11 AM.

The mobilization of taxi drivers was prompted by the unilateral decision of UNCAM to introduce new tariffs, including a 30% reduction in reimbursement rates for taxi healthcare transport. This move has been deemed unsustainable by FNAT and FNDT, who are advocating for the survival of medical taxi services and are seeking a meeting with government officials at Matignon.
