StableStudio: The Open Source Image Generator by Stability AI

StableStudio: Open source image generator by Stability AI

AI start-up Stability AI recently launched an open-source version of its text-based image generator DreamStudio called “StableStudio”. Designed as an interface for Stability AI’s image creation models, StableStudio is released under an MIT license on Github and has already created millions of images. To further the development of the platform, Stability AI has called upon the developer community for help. The start-up hopes to offer a reward system to developers who contribute their ideas and improvements.

Since its founding last year, Stability AI has released the AI generator “Stable Diffusion” as open source. Later, DreamStudio became the main interface for the AI models. It has since introduced the SDXL image creation model and released two large language models under a Creative Commons license.

Stability AI’s AI “If” was developed by DeepFloyd to address the issue of AI-supported image generators not being able to write. “If” aims to create photorealistic images with lettering, making them suitable for graphic design.

Stability AI is also mired in controversy over copyright infringement. Getty Images has sued the start-up in the UK, accusing it of unlawfully training the AI on its images and thereby violating copyright millions of times. The company is also facing lawsuits in the US by Midjourney.

The start-up will now move all further development to a public repository and has asked the developer community for input in the future.
