Snowfall in Paris and Île-de-France: Road closures, disrupted RER and metro lines

Slippery roads, numerous accidents on the roads, disruptions in transport… The snow that fell overnight promises some difficulties on the RATP and SNCF networks on Thursday, January 18, 2024. Actu Paris accompanies you in this morning with particular weather conditions.

8:30 am: an update on disruptions in public transport
The incident on tramway T1 has ended, but traffic remains disrupted. The same is true for line 13.
The incident on the RER D, near Creil, has ended, but traffic is slow in certain areas. Expect a 20 minute delay.
The RER C is still interrupted from Brétigny to Dourdan-la-Forêt, in this direction only. The estimated time for resumption of service is around 9am.
The disruptions on metro line 8 are also being resolved. Traffic is gradually returning to normal.

8:15 am: territories mobilized to deal with snow and ice
In Val-de-Marne, Fontenay-sous-Bois agents worked late into the night to salt the roads.
Meanwhile, Grand Paris Seine Ouest (GPSO) has been preparing for extensive salting operations.
In the 17th arrondissement of Paris, the mayor tweeted a selfie with the property agents on the bridge.

8:10 am: RATP website inaccessible
The RATP website is not responding, possibly due to high demand.

8:00 am: chaos on metro line 13
A signaling failure between Invalides and La Fourche stations has led to the interruption of service on metro line 13. The estimated time for resumption of service is around 8:30 am.

7:40 am: breakdown on metro line 8, no buses running in Paris
Traffic is interrupted on metro line 8 between Reuilly-Diderot and Pointe du Lac due to a breakdown at Michel Bizot station. Service is expected to resume around 8am.

7:30 am: closed roads
Since 6:40am, the A104 road is closed outside Villeparisis.
The exit ramp to access Boulevard Périphérique is closed at Porte de la Chapelle.

7:00 am: summary of disrupted RER and metro lines
Since 7:00 am, traffic is interrupted on metro line 2 between Nation and Père Lachaise due to a breakdown. The line 13 is also experiencing difficulties with service interruptions.

6:30 am: Paris and Île-de-France placed on orange alert since yesterday
Paris and Île-de-France have been placed on orange alert for snow and ice. The police prefecture has activated an emergency plan with several measures in place since January 17, 2024.

To prepare for the snowy episode, the maximum speed allowed on the roads in the Paris region has been reduced by 20 km/h.
