Smart Home Interview: Unveiling the Transformative Power of AVM

AVM in an interview about Smart Home: "A repeater repeats itself"

The Fritzsmart gateway is expanding the smart home capabilities of Fritzbox routers by allowing access to the Zigbee world and a larger selection of smart home devices. AVM, the company behind Fritzbox, reveals their plans for incorporating DECT, Zigbee, and the universal standard Matter into their smart home ecosystem.

The Fritzsmart gateway offers two smart home systems – DECT ULE and Zigbee – to users of Fritzbox routers. By integrating Zigbee, AVM is expanding the range of compatible devices. However, maintaining two systems does require additional effort, raising questions about the future of DECT in AVM’s plans. Konrad Isler, Product Manager Smart Home at AVM, discusses the company’s position on DECT and their development plans.

Isler explains that DECT ULE will continue to be a central part of AVM’s smart home offerings alongside Zigbee. DECT offers advantages such as high range and low energy consumption. Additionally, DECT operates on its own radio band, minimizing interference with other radio applications. These factors make DECT an attractive choice for AVM.

The integration of Zigbee through the Fritzsmart gateway marks a significant expansion of AVM’s smart home ecosystem. With plans to incorporate DECT, Zigbee, and the universal Matter standard, AVM aims to offer a comprehensive and versatile smart home solution for their customers.
