Secure Authentication with SuperTokens in a Self-Driven Data Center

Open source authentication: SuperTokens keeps all data in its own data center

SuperTokens Release New Version for Open-Source Authentication Platform

SuperTokens, the open-source authentication platform, has released version 5.0 of its platform. Positioned as an alternative to leading proprietary authentication services like AWS Cognito, Auth0, and Firebase Auth, SuperTokens emphasizes its flexibility, simple setup, and self-hosting capabilities. With SuperTokens, administrators can use it for both session management and login processes or for only one of the two. The platform also provides several authentication methods such as social media login, email and password, and passwordless login. However, 2FA is still not provided but is listed in product development updates.

Self-Hosting and On-Premises Authentication

As an open-source platform, SuperTokens can be operated by administrators on their own data centers. The provider also offers a paid, managed service for server capacity. The pricing model for its service charges 2 cents per monthly active user. The first 5,000 monthly users are free. Additionally, SuperTokens provides a standard UI for user authentication. The provider also offers SDKs for frontend frameworks such as Go, Node.js, or React.js for implementing custom registration pages.

Model Maintenance and Changes in Handling JWT

The recent SuperTokens version 5.0 release included model maintenance of the HTTP service and changes to handling JSON Web Tokens (JWT) that are required for user access. Users can also request for new features they want to be added to future releases. SuperTokens source code is also available on GitHub, while more information is available on the project’s official website.
