Reality Pro: Apple headset apparently ready for production soon

Apple’s First Mixed Reality Hardware Expected to Enter Production Soon

Apple’s much-awaited first mixed reality hardware, called Reality Pro, is in the final phase before production start, as reported by the Economic Daily News. The headset is being primarily manufactured by the Chinese manufacturer Luxshare, which is a new move for Apple as it has previously relied mainly on Taiwanese manufacturers. However, Foxconn is also partly involved, with its subsidiary GIS managing the lamination of the headset’s lenses in Chengdu, China. The headset’s first components are expected to be delivered to customers in the second quarter.

Mixed Reality Headset Expected to Launch by the End of This Year

As per the EDN report, it is likely that the headset will be displayed for the first time at the World Wide Developers Conference on June 5, 2023. Although the headset’s launch might take place earlier than expected, the EDN expects the headset to be sold in the coming months, with the possibility of it being launched as early as the end of this year. The Foxconn subsidiary, GIS, could also be responsible for the technically complex lens fitting, which includes the attachment of lenses to the headset. The final assembly will take place at Luxshare.

Chinese Companies Expected to Meet Apple’s High Standards

Apple’s decision to assign the manufacturing of the Reality Pro headset to Luxshare, a pure-play Chinese manufacturer, indicates the company’s confidence in its ability to deliver high-quality mixed reality hardware that meets Apple’s standards. It is a significant move for Luxshare, demonstrating the manufacturer’s ability to produce complex devices.

As Apple prepares to enter the mixed reality space, its experience in wearable technology and premium electronic products, combined with Luxshare’s manufacturing abilities, are expected to create a new competitor in the mixed reality market. Apple’s entry into the mixed reality world is expected to bring a fresh perspective to VR and AR, enabling it to take a more significant share in the consumer and enterprise markets.
