Qatar’s Plan: Paris City Hall Strikes Back

Foot – PSG

The PSG stadium issue has been complicated for several months. The Paris city council refuses to sell the Parc des Princes to Qatar, and Qatar wants to leave in order to build its own stadium. But on Friday, the Paris city council met to discuss this thorny issue and reaffirmed its position, reminding PSG that they are contractually linked to the city for the Parc des Princes until 2043.

Will the Parc des Princes be sold to PSG? At the moment, the situation seems to be at a standstill. The Paris city council continues to refuse to sell the stadium, and PSG is considering other opportunities, such as building its own stadium.

“PSG leaving the Parc des Princes? It’s not possible, it’s not likely,” said Emmanuel Grégoire, the first deputy mayor of Paris, in response to questions from reporters after the meeting at City Hall. “Before, there was a rumor about the Stade de France, but that’s not possible. Building a new stadium with 70,000 or 100,000 seats, I don’t think that’s possible either.”

“Furthermore, PSG has a contract with the city of Paris until 2043, so they will have to honor it until then. They cannot leave early or terminate it,” Emmanuel Grégoire added. “That’s why we need to work well. I respect all the hypotheses being studied. Obviously, if PSG finds another solution, it will do so, and I think that any time we lose is time lost for PSG’s development.”
