PSG: Anne Hidalgo targeted by banners and insults at Parc des Princes

The PSG ultras insulted the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo and displayed several banners against her during the PSG match against Lille on Saturday (3-1) at the Parc des Princes, amidst a conflict between the club and the city hall regarding the sale of the stadium. “Without PSG, the Parc has no more princes”, “Hidalgo is killing Paris and its magic” or “taken over by politicians, a stadium for the people” were written on the banners unveiled by the Auteuil stand at the Parc des Princes.

The PSG ultras also chanted “Hidalgo resignation” repeatedly and insulted her, forcing the stadium speaker to speak out after doing so before the match due to homophobic chants.

All parties in deadlock

Thursday, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi stated he wanted to leave the stadium after the Paris city hall refused to sell the venue to him. On the sidelines of the UEFA congress, the Qatari executive told journalists: “It’s too easy to say now that the stadium is no longer for sale. We know what we want, we wasted years trying to buy the Parc. It’s over now, we want to move from the Parc”.

The Parisian club, committed until the end of 2043 in a thirty-year lease with the owned city hall, considers the acquisition of the stadium essential to carry out its expansion project to 60,000 seats, against around 48,000 currently. For months, the situation has been tense due to the persistent blocking of the file.
