Vallée Sud Grand Paris, an intermunicipal association made up of 11 cities in the Hauts-de-Seine (Antony, Bagneux, Bourg-la-Reine, Châtenay-Malabry, Châtillon, Clamart, Fontenay-aux-Roses, Le Plessis-Robinson, Malakoff, Montrouge, and Sceaux), is rolling alongside cyclists.

The community has just signed a charter of commitment in favor of cycling mobility. It is the first intermunicipal association to do so. Nine associations from the territory’s cycling collective have signed this document: MDB – Bagneux, BLR à vélo, Un vélo dans Châtenay, Vélo piéton de Châtillon, Dérailleurs de Clamart, FAR à vélo, Dynamo Malakoff, MDB Montrouge, and Sceaux à Vélo. Two Châtenay-based associations have also signed this charter: CCM Vélo Club de Châtenay-Malabry and ASUCM section cyclotourisme.

This charter “opens a space for consultation for the development of infrastructure projects, parking, and services, taking into account other road users,” explains the intermunicipal association. The Territory and cycling associations will thus be able to exchange on technical aspects, organize follow-up meetings, or involve the Collective in events related to sustainable mobility.

Infrastructure extension, facilitation of cycling movements

Equipped with a cycling infrastructure of more than 175 kilometers, Vallée Sud Grand Paris aims to increase this figure to 250 kilometers. It also wants to put an end to discontinuities in routes, a source of danger for cyclists, mainly in the West-East connections.

The intermunicipal association, in which 30% of the inhabitants work, had already adopted a Cycling Master Plan for the Territory, developed in consultation with the eleven municipalities that make it up and cycling associations. In this context, it is working on the two main obstacles to the use of bicycles: the lack of secure parking and cyclist safety. This plan also aims to improve tourist and leisure links outside of the main roadways.

This initiative in favor of cycling is in line with the objectives of the Climate Air Energy Territorial Plan. Vallée Sud-Grand Paris. It thus aims to achieve “a modal share of cycling of 10% by 2030 and a 70% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector by 2050.”
