Pro-Palestinian Demonstration in Paris: Police Concerned About Wild Gatherings

The Paris Police Department is preparing for a pro-Palestinian demonstration that is currently prohibited. The organizers are awaiting the decision of the administrative court judge, but the authorities are already anticipating that the demonstration will take place regardless of the ruling.

Between 10,000 and 15,000 potential protesters may take to the streets of Paris. Lawyer Elsa Marcel has called for the protesters to gather at Place du Châtelet at 2:30 PM. She expects hundreds of thousands of people to march in London, Madrid, Amsterdam, and especially in Paris, stating that “today more than ever, Paris stands with Gaza.”

In an order signed on Friday, the Police Prefecture authorized the use of drones in the capital on Saturday. They mentioned that despite the ban on demonstrations, there is a strong possibility that a procession will form to march from Châtelet to Place de la République. They express concern that there may be spontaneous gatherings along the route.

According to intelligence reports seen by Europe 1, between 10,000 and 15,000 people could participate in the demonstration. The authorities are concerned about the proposed route, as it passes through the boulevards of Sébastopol and Strasbourg Saint-Denis, eventually heading towards République. These areas have several “Jewish places of worship,” such as synagogues and the Israeli center in Montmartre, which could be targeted.

Europe 1 also reports that the Prefecture is worried about the communities in these areas, as they include many unaccompanied minors, marginalized individuals, and a large Muslim population.
