Pro-Palestinian demonstration banned in Paris on Sunday, confirmed by Laurent Nuñez

The Prefect of Police of Paris, Laurent Nuñez, has made it clear that “demonstrations are already prohibited on the Champs-Élysées” on December 31st, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.

This message is a response to a publication by the president of the Republicans Éric Ciotti, who asked the Minister of the Interior to ban the “pro Hamas rally on the Champs Élysées, which represents a disturbance to public order!” The deputy was referring to a demonstration planned for December 31st at midnight by the Urgence Palestine collective.

“I will ensure strict enforcement of this ban,” said the Prefect of Police of Paris in his message on X. A few hours earlier, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin announced the deployment of more than 90,000 police officers and gendarmes, as well as 5,000 soldiers from the Sentinelle operation, on Sunday evening. Among them, 6,000 will be stationed in Paris. Authorities anticipate between 700,000 and 1 million people on the Champs-Élysées on New Year’s Eve.
